The Search for the lost "Battle of Anghiari": Lost_Leonardo-012

Dr. Alessandro Cecchi, Director of The Leonardo Project, and researcher Dr. Massimo Marcolin (with beard) examine an old records book from the 16th century called Operai di Palazzo (14, c. 5r.). The book contains records of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence and is held at Archivio di Stato in Florence. In this particular book is a reference to wood being purchased to protect Leonardo's Battle of Anghiari from soldiers barracked in what is now the Hall of 500, a clue that the painting was there for years and valued to the degree that there were efforts to protect it.
